Ameenah is a BAFTA-nominated and BIFA-winning producer, who was named as one of Screen International’s Stars of Tomorrow in 2018. A year later she completed Sarah Gavron's ROCKS. The critically acclaimed film earned 5-star reviews and seven BAFTA nominations, including Outstanding British Film, and won for Casting and EE Rising Star for Bukky Bakray. It also won five British Independent Film Awards (BIFA), including Best British Independent Film.
Most recently, she produced Carol Morley's TYPIST ARTIST PIRATE KING (2023) starring Monica Doland and Kelly Macdonald and co-produced Clio Barnard's Cannes selected ALI & AVA (2021), which was nominated for two BAFTAs and won two BIFAs, having worked across all Barnard's features - most notably THE SELFISH GIANT (2012). In 2021, Ameenah completed the prestigious film business training and leadership programme, Inside Pictures and in 2022 was selected for BAFTA’s Elevate.
Key credits also include BRICK LANE (2007), based on the best-selling novel, ELECTRICITY (2014) starring Agyness Deyn and Hong Khao's MONSOON (2019) starring Henry Golding. Ameenah produced several short films, one of which was shortlisted for an Oscar and documentaries including Andrea Luka Zimmerman’s ERASE AND FORGET (2017), which was nominated for the Original Documentary Award at Berlinale.
Her focus is on invigorating diaspora stories by new and established talent for global audiences.
