The Art of Collaboration: Blending Effects and Design for 'Warfare'

Directed by Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza, Warfare presents an authentic and raw account of a 2006 Iraqi battle. An independent production with a modest budget, the film was shot on a set built on a Bovingdon Airfield carpark over just a one-month period. Filming was structured to simulate a real-time mission experience with an intense atmosphere. For a production which aimed to faithfully recreate the veterans’ experiences, word of mouth was key. Departmental silos were removed and a collaborative approach was taken to improve efficiency. Visual effects for the film were created by Cinesite. VFX Supervisor Simon Stanley-Clamp discusses some key challenges faced by the visual effects and design teams, with SFX Supervisor Ryan Conder and Production Designer Mark Digby.
