About the Speaker

Hugh Gourlay is an Edinburgh based Location Manager with many years experience working on HETV and features across Scotland and the UK.  He worked as Supervising Location Manager on Scott Frank’s British adaptation of Dept Q for Netflix which was filmed in and around Edinburgh utilising an extensive array of city wide locations.  Prior to this, Hugh worked for BBC Studios / Amazon Studios in the same role on Good Omens S2.  In 2013 he was taken on by Left Bank Pictures to work on Outlander where he established the look and tone of the locations for the hit show and headed up the Location Department for Seasons 1 to 4.  

Hugh has also worked as a location manager on a number of features over his years in the industry including The Flash and Fast & Furious 6 where he facilitated the filming of action sequences in Glasgow City Centre.  Prior relocating to Edinburgh in 2003, he started out in the industry working as a location assistant on Mission Impossible, Saving Private Ryan before progressing to be location manager on Nanny McPhee.
