About the Speaker

Philippa Childs is the Head of Bectu, the UK’s trade union for the creative industries.

She champions the rights of nearly 40,000 staff, contract and freelance workers across the creative industries, including broadcasting, film and TV, theatres, fashion, live events and more.

Under her direction Bectu took a leading role in advocating for creative industry workers –particularly freelancers – throughout and in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, and sounded the alarm on the prolonged slowdown in UK film and TV production brought about by historical industrial action in the USA in 2023.

Childs has spent much of her career in trade unions, and has helped establish Bectu as the largest union at the BBC, as well as building a strong presence in many of the UK’s leading theatres, arts centres and independent broadcasting and production companies.

Setting the Standard: Why CIISA Registration Matters

In an industry calling out for greater accountability, CIISA registration is coming to a workplace near you in April 2026.

What is CIISA registration and why should you care about it? It's your badge of credibility, your ticket to upholding and improving standards of behaviour across the film and TV industry.

The idea for the Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority was first thought of in 2021 in light of the #MeToo movement and the Time’s Up UK campaign. A huge amount of work has been done to build and develop the organisation. It published its four standards – the framework that sets out the minimum expectations – to improve behaviours and culture across the creative industries.

Join Philippa Childs, Head of Bectu and Jen Smith, CEO of CIISA for a panel discussion on the role of the creative industries’ first ever independent standards authority. The panel will take a closer look at the CIISA Standards and what they mean for broadcasters, production companies and freelancers.

Get ready to register and take the lead in making the creative industries a safer, fairer and more inclusive place to work.
