Meet FINAS, Malaysia’s gateway to global production partnerships, at FOCUS 2025
At
FOCUS 2025, the
National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) will spotlight Malaysia’s evolution into one of Asia’s most dynamic and internationally connected production hubs. With a renewed government allocation for the Film in Malaysia Incentive (FIMI) and an expanding portfolio of global collaborations, FINAS arrives in London with a clear message: Malaysia is open for creative business.
“Over the past year, the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) has continued to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a premier filming destination in Asia,”
Norashikin Ahmad Nor, Assistant Director of Corporate Communication at FINAS said. “One of the most significant developments is the new government allocation for the Film in Malaysia Incentive (FIMI) under the 2026–2030 cycle, ensuring long-term continuity and stability for international producers.”

At the heart of Malaysia’s film-friendly appeal is the FIMI scheme, offering a 30% cash rebate, plus an additional 5% cultural test bonus for qualifying productions. “Through FIMI, productions can enjoy a 30% cash rebate, with an additional 5% cultural test bonus, making Malaysia one of the most competitive production hubs in the region,” the spokesperson continued. “This renewed budget and policy framework reaffirm Malaysia’s commitment to supporting high-quality international and local content production.”
“Visitors to the Malaysia Pavilion (FINAS Booth) can discover the wide range of filming opportunities, facilities, and incentives available under FIMI (30% + 5% rebate). Our team will showcase Malaysia’s world-class production ecosystem — from modern studios and post-production houses to diverse filming locations ranging from tropical rainforests to futuristic cityscapes,” she explains.
The delegation will also facilitate direct engagement between Malaysian and international producers. “Attendees will be able to connect directly with Malaysian producers, studios, and service providers ready to collaborate on international co-productions, animation, and TV formats.” As one of the world’s leading trade events for screen industries, FOCUS offers FINAS a strategic opportunity to connect with decision-makers from across Europe and beyond. “FOCUS provides a valuable global platform for FINAS to engage directly with producers, studios, and commissioners from Europe and beyond,” the spokesperson said. “It allows us to strengthen partnerships, promote our incentive framework, and explore potential co-production opportunities under Malaysia’s bilateral treaties and creative collaborations. Through one-on-one meetings, panel participation, and networking sessions, FOCUS helps us position Malaysia as a trusted regional partner in film and TV production.”
"FOCUS London 2025 is an excellent opportunity to share updates on the expanded FIMI programme, discuss upcoming co-production treaties, and showcase success stories from projects that have recently filmed in Malaysia."
Looking ahead, FINAS is optimistic about emerging trends that continue to reshape global production. “We are particularly excited about the rise of cross-border collaborations and location-based production hubs,” Nor adds. “The growing trend of international content being produced in Asia — supported by government-backed incentives — presents vast opportunities for Malaysia. Additionally, streaming platforms’ continued demand for diverse content has driven a surge in high-end TV series and animation projects. With Malaysia’s growing talent base and cost-effective infrastructure, we are well-positioned to host international productions looking for a sustainable and culturally rich filming environment.”
As FINAS prepares for another active year of outreach and partnership, its presence at FOCUS London underscores Malaysia’s ambition to play a leading role in global content creation. “We look forward to reconnecting with our international partners and introducing new producers to Malaysia’s creative potential,” Nor concludes. “FOCUS London 2025 is an excellent opportunity to share updates on the expanded FIMI programme, discuss upcoming co-production treaties, and showcase success stories from projects that have recently filmed in Malaysia. Above all, we’re excited to continue building bridges between Malaysia and the global creative community — fostering collaboration, investment, and storytelling that transcend borders.”
