FOCUS 2025 welcomes Shadowbox Studios

Over the past year, Shadowbox Studios has marked a series of milestones that reflect both its rapid growth and its evolving role in the production landscape. FOCUS looks forward to welcoming the studio group to the show floor to let you know what they have in store.

“This past year has been an important one for our team all over the world,” Mike Mosallam, COO, Shadowbox Studios shares. “A highlight is marking Shinfield’s first full year of operations. It’s remarkable to think that despite being the newest studio in the UK, we’ve already welcomed HETV productions from all the US streamers, as well as multiple features and unscripted series.”

That success underscores the studio’s ability to respond quickly to industry demand, offering premium facilities and hands-on support at a time when production logistics are more complex than ever. The company’s international reach continues to expand too.

“2025 also saw our first agreement under the Shadowbox Collective with the announcement of our partnership with Olivewood Studios in Jordan. Our operations team have been guiding this wonderful facility since the summer,” Mike adds, a clear signal of Shadowbox’s ambition to build a truly global studio network.

“This year Shadowbox’s presence will be felt through our sponsorship of The Private Lounge in the main exhibition hall,” Mike explains. “It absolutely feels like the right time to position our brand in the heart of the exhibition, in the place where delegates will come to meet colleagues and friends, collaborate creatively and maybe initiate the start of new partnerships. In a way it will mirror the welcome and warmth you can expect at any Shadowbox studio.”

The decision to sponsor a space dedicated to connection feels emblematic of the company’s approach. Across its sites in the UK, US, Australia and the Middle East, Shadowbox prioritises community and workforce development alongside state-of-the-art infrastructure.

“We appreciate the international nature of FOCUS,” Mike says. “As well as our studio facilities around the world, we operate the Backlot Academy, a studio-run workforce development programme. It’s become a proven success in multiple territories, and we look forward to continuing conversations with representatives from other nations who are interested in taking advantage of a ready-made, skills-focused programme.”

That global outlook, matched with an emphasis on training, positions Shadowbox as more than a facility provider. It’s a partner in shaping the next generation of production talent. This evolving role is something the company sees as central to the future of studio operations.

“There are some significant and well-documented challenges in our industry right now, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t reason for optimism,” Mike notes. “As studio operators we see first-hand how much harder and more expensive production has become. So for us, the big trend is how the role of studio operators has evolved. The time of the landlord model is over — we’re now in the era of being true partners to productions, helping them find flexible and cost-effective ways to bring their stories to screen.”

It’s a philosophy that resonates with the collaborative ethos of FOCUS itself, where industry leaders come together to share ideas and build partnerships across borders. And for the Shadowbox team, that human connection remains at the heart of their excitement for this year’s edition. “Aside from taking advantage of the opportunity to visit London during the holiday season,” they said with a smile, “it would be being able to connect in person with colleagues from across the industry.”

From Shinfield’s first anniversary to new ventures in Jordan and beyond, Shadowbox Studios arrives at FOCUS London 2025 with momentum, optimism, and a clear message: the future of production will be built on partnership, and they’re ready to lead that conversation.
