United Kingdom
The BFI (British Film Institute) is a cultural charity, a National Lottery distributor, and the UK's lead organisation for film and the moving image.
The Certification Unit at the BFI is the first point of contact for applicants wanting to qualify their film, high-end television programme, animation programme, children’s television programme and video game as British through the cultural test or as an official co-production (film and TV) in order to access the UK’s creative sector tax incentives.
The unit are responsible for assessing and guiding producers through both the cultural test and on official co-production treaties. Qualifying your project as British enables you to access tax incentives on your project, but can also be a requirement for accessing the BFI Film Fund, Global Screen Fund and other regional UK funds. We will also be on hand to discuss the new Enhanced AVEC incentive for UK Independent film and how this works, which is worth up to 40% of your qualifying UK expenditure.
